Alarm response and mobile security patrols

When an alarm activates after hours, somebody has to go and look. Secura’s alarm response puts a licensed officer in a marked Isuzu MU-X at your site to check the building, secure it and report, instead of a keyholder driving across town at 3 am. The same fleet runs scheduled patrols: lock and unlock checks, random drive-bys and walk-throughs for sites that want a visible presence through the night.

Before you decide

Where patrols operate

Patrols are based around Vermont and cover Melbourne’s east and south-east, roughly 25 kilometres from the control room: Whitehorse, Maroondah, Knox, Manningham, Monash, Boroondara, the western Yarra Ranges and down to Dandenong. Tell us your suburb and we will say plainly whether we can serve it well.

Whose fleet it is

The patrol fleet and the control room are operated by Guardian Security Group, Secura’s partner for more than two decades, from the same Vermont premises. Secura sets up your response plan, is your contact for it and makes sure the reports reach you.

False alarms cost money

Victoria Police charge for attending false alarms. Sending a patrol first to confirm what has happened keeps those fees off your invoice and, more usefully, finds the open window or the cleaner who forgot the code.

What happens

Step by step

  1. Dispatch

The control room sends the nearest patrol as soon as your alarm plan calls for it, with the site details and access instructions on the officer’s terminal.

  2. Attend

The officer checks the perimeter, doors, windows and anything your plan flags, and goes inside where you have authorised it.

  3. Secure

Found open, the site is secured; found broken into, police are called and the officer waits with the premises until a keyholder or boarding-up arrives.

  4. Report

Arrival and departure times, what was found and what was done, confirmed by GPS, are logged and sent to you.

Questions

Alarm response and patrols: common questions

Are the patrol officers armed?
Patrol officers are licensed for the work they do under the Private Security Act, and the response fleet is equipped for alarm attendance. Ask us what applies to your site and we will set it out plainly in your response plan.
How often do scheduled patrols visit?
As often as the site warrants: one drive-by a night is common for a depot or club, several for a site with a recent history. Visits are at random times so a pattern cannot be learnt, and each one is logged.
Can patrols hold my keys?
Yes. Keys are held securely and signed out to the attending officer, so the site can be checked inside and locked again without a keyholder attending. Many clients use this as their keyholder service.
What does a patrol do if it finds a break-in?
Calls police, secures what can be secured, waits with the premises and calls your keyholder. If boarding-up is needed, we can arrange it. You get the report the same night.
