Back-to-base alarm monitoring

An alarm that only makes a noise protects nothing. Back-to-base monitoring connects your alarm panel to a control room staffed around the clock, so every activation is seen, checked and acted on within seconds, whether it is two in the afternoon or two in the morning. Secura monitors shops, clinics, clubs, factories and homes across Melbourne from our Vermont premises.

Good to know

Before you decide

Who is watching

Signals are received at the control room operated by Guardian Security Group at 32 Redland Drive, Vermont, which Guardian describes as A1-graded and which runs 24 hours a day. Secura is your account manager and installer; the operators who answer your alarm are two doors down from Rob’s desk.

Phone lines are gone

The 3G network was switched off in 2024 and copper phone lines are going the same way. Alarms still dialling out on either will fail silently. We check how your panel communicates on the first visit and quote a 4G or IP communicator if it needs one.

Insurance expects it

Many commercial insurance policies require a monitored alarm that is tested and armed. A monitoring agreement and the event history are the paperwork your broker asks for after a claim; keep both.

What happens

Step by step

  1. Activation

A sensor trips, a panic button is pressed or a door opens out of hours. The panel sends the signal and the control room has it within seconds.

  2. Check

An operator reads the event against your site plan: which zone, what time, who to call, whether a patrol goes straight away.

  3. Act

Keyholders are called in your order. A marked patrol is dispatched if your plan says so or if nobody answers. Police are called when there is evidence of a break-in.

  4. Report

You get a record of the event, the calls made, the patrol’s findings and the time it was resolved. Nothing is left to a verbal account.

Questions

Alarm monitoring: common questions

Can you take over monitoring from another company?
Yes. Most panels can be re-pointed to our control room without replacing anything. Check your current contract’s notice period, give us the panel make, and we will tell you what the changeover involves before you give notice.
What does monitoring cost?
It depends on the site, how it communicates and what response you want, so we price it from a short conversation rather than a price list. There is no charge to ask.
What if the internet or power goes down?
A monitored panel has a battery and, with a 4G communicator, a second path when the internet drops. The control room is told when a site stops reporting, and you are told too. For sites that cannot risk a gap we fit dual-path communicators.
Will the control room call the police?
Operators call police when there is evidence of a break-in or a duress signal, in line with Victoria Police’s alarm response policy; a patrol is usually sent first to confirm a genuine event, because false alarms attended by police attract fees.
Can I see what is happening from my phone?
Modern panels, including the Ajax systems we install, come with an app that shows arming, disarming and events in real time, alongside the control room’s monitoring. Older panels can often be upgraded to add it.
