For homes

A monitored alarm for the house, from the people who watch the shops

Most of Secura’s work is commercial, and that is what makes the home systems good: the same control room, the same patrols and the same installers, sized for a house. A monitored alarm, cameras where they count, and somebody who goes to look when it goes off and you are not there.

What a home gets

The essentials, done properly

  • A wireless alarm with door, window and motion sensors, no cables through the walls
  • Monitoring from the 24-hour control room, with your family as the keyholders
  • Patrol response to activations when nobody can get there
  • Cameras on the driveway, front door and back yard, viewable on your phone
  • An app that shows who armed and disarmed, and lets you check in from anywhere
  • Panic and medical buttons for older family members, if wanted
  • Servicing and battery changes when they are due

How it goes

Four steps to a watched house

  1. A look at the house

Entry points, the garage, the side gate, where you keep the things that matter, and how the household comes and goes. Twenty minutes, no charge.

  2. A system that fits

Usually an Ajax wireless alarm with door and motion sensors, a couple of cameras where they earn their keep, and an app for the family. Quoted in writing.

  3. Connected and tested

Installed in a day in most homes, connected to the control room, and tested with a real activation before we leave. Codes and the app set up for each person.

  4. Watched while you are away

The control room sees every activation, calls the people you nominate, and sends a patrol to check the house if that is your plan.

Good to know

Three things people ask about at home

Pets and false alarms

Pet-tolerant motion sensors and sensible placement take care of most false alarms. We tune the system with you after the first week.

Holidays

Tell the control room when you are away and who has a key. A patrol check of the house while you are overseas is a small add-on.

Insurance

Some home policies discount a monitored alarm. Your monitoring agreement is the document the insurer asks for.

Questions

Home security: common questions

What does home monitoring cost?
A monthly fee that depends on the response you want and how the alarm communicates. We quote it plainly after looking at the house; there is no contract to sign to find out.
Can I just use the app and skip the monitoring?
You can. The app comes with the system. The difference is that with self-monitoring you are the only person who will ever see an activation, including at 3 am and while you are on a plane. Most households use both.
Will the cameras record the street?
Cameras are positioned to cover your property, not the neighbours’ or the footpath, which is what Victoria’s surveillance law and common sense both expect. We check the view with you on the day.
Do I need a landline?
No. Modern systems communicate over 4G and your internet. If you have an older alarm still dialling a landline, it needs a communicator upgrade to be monitored reliably.
